Dr. H. W. Latham was born at High Point, Mo., March 26, 1852, and is the son of F. A. and Sarah A. (Dunlap) Latham, the father a native of Virginia and the mother of Tennessee. The grandparents on both sides were of the same nativity as their children. Grandfather Latham died in Virginia. Grandfather Dunlap came to Missouri in 1848 or earlier, and was one of the pioneer settlers. He was the first senator from the district in which he then resided. Our subject’s parents are still living, his father having served six years as county judge. Dr. H. W. Latham remained on his father’s farm until seventeen years of age, when he went to High Point, and read medicine with Dr. Dunlap three years, six months out of each year being spent in the St. Louis Medical College, from which institution he graduated some time later. In March, 1872, he commenced his career here, laying out the town, and has since had a large and increasing practice, and is one of the prominent practitioners of the county, although still comparatively young. He is a member and vice-president of the John McDowell Medical Society, and also belongs to the State Medical Society and National Medical Association. He owns 270 acres of good farming land, all well improved, but is principally engaged in handling stock. He has in course of construction an excellent brick residence, the finest in the township. Dr. Latham was married in 1878 to Miss Lulu B. Taliaferro, and they are the parents of four children, three sons and one daughter, William T., Gregory, Sallie L. and Peter C. Dr. Latham owns a half interest in the flouring-mill located at Latham, and besides owns town property in that village. He has a good residence and a fine brick business building.
