George W. Robertson was born on the farm where he now lives in 1833, his parents being James and Cynthia (Deakins) Robertson. The father was born in Tennessee, and first moved with his parents to Kentucky, then to Missouri, they being among the early settlers of Moniteau County. His father, John Robertson, lived to be about 100 years old, was a successful farmer, and reared a large family of children. James Robertson located on the farm on which George W. now resides in 1831 or 1832, and here resided until his death. He was very public spirited, a patron of education, and was one of the county’s best citizens. He died in 1853, aged about fifty years, and was followed by his wife two weeks later, at about the same age. Elizabeth, wife of William Howard, and George W. are their children. The latter remained with his father until he attained his majority, in the meantime attending school and assisting on the farm, and in 1853 espoused Miss Maremna Stinson, whose birth occurred in Moniteau County in 1834. Their union has been blessed in the birth of twelve children: Ira J., Almira, wife of William Irey; Birdie, wife of David Jones; Sarah Ettie, Tyre J., Maggie, wife of Wilson Williams, Cynthia, Ezra, Alvin, Alta, Olin and Oron, who died in childhood. Mr. and Mrs. Robertson have been members of the Baptist Church for about fifty-five years, and are active workers in the Sunday-school. He has been school director for twenty years, and in his political views is a Democrat.
