George T. Clark is a native of Logan County, Ky., and was born in 1836, being a son of Hiram and Mary A. (Hickman) Clark, who were born on Kentucky soil, the former in 1812, and the latter in 1818. They resided in their native State until 1839, when they came to Missouri, and located on the farm where their son George now lives. The old log house in which they reared their children is still standing, and is one of the oldest buildings in the county. Mr. Clark became an extensive land-holder, and up to the time of his death, in 1861, was engaged in tilling the soil. He was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. After living many years a widow, the mother wedded John McPherson, who died shortly after their union, and her death occurred March 26, 1887. Mr. and Mrs. Clark became the parents of five children, four of whom are now living: John W., Henry L., William A. (who died at the age of twenty-one years), Samantha A. (wife of H. P. Brown, of Henry County, Mo.) and George T. The latter received such education as the public schools afford, and after attaining his twenty-first year worked one year with the surveyors of the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He then attended McGee College at Macon, Mo., for some time, and was then engaged in clerking for several years, after which he located on the old homestead, where he has since made his home. His wife, whose maiden name was Mary B. Yancey, and whom he married in 1865, was born in Cooper County, Mo., in November, 1845. Her mother came to Missouri in 1818. Mr. and Mrs. Clark are the parents of the following children: William A., Minnie E., Frank, Hiram, Henry, Anna, Mary, Cora and Bessie. Blanche died when an infant. Mr. Clark is a Democrat. He is a liberal patron of education, trying hard to educate his children. His oldest son graduates this year at Waynesburg, Penn.
