Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

George McFadden, farmer, of Moreau Township, was born in Wayne County, Ohio, in 1827, and was there reared to manhood on a farm, his education being obtained in the early subscription schools. After the death of his father, in 1849, he took charge of the home farm, and lived with his mother until her death, in 1858 or 1860. George McFadden remained in Ohio until 1864, then he and a younger brother immigrated to Missouri, and he purchased the farm on which he is now living, and in the fall of 1865 removed his family to this place. In 1887 they removed to Sedalia, where his family still live. Mr. McFadden was married February 5, 1849, to Miss Mary McNaull, who was born in Ashland County, Ohio, in January, 1826, and by her became the father of nine children: John, Charles, Elizabeth, Rosa A., George W., William J., Mary J., Clement V. and Frank A., all of whom are gone from home with one exception. He has always been interested in the cause of education, and has given his children good advantages for acquiring practical business educations. His son George W. has been a school-teacher, and is now a railroad agent and telegraph operator in Chicago, Ill. Mr. McFadden has been an active Democrat in politics, but has never sought for office. His farm consists of 265 acres, all of which is under cultivation, with the exception of twenty-three acres of timber land. He and family worship in the Catholic Church.
