George J. Robertson was born in what is now Moniteau County, November 15, 1838, being a son of John and Mary (Howard) Robertson and grandson of John Robertson. The latter lived to be a very old man. The father and mother were born in Virginia and Kentucky, respectively, the former coming to Kentucky when about sixteen years of age, and at an early day came to Missouri and purchased a farm near where George J. is now living. He was one of the pioneer farmers of the county, and died June 11, 1885, at the age of eighty years, having been a member of the Baptist Church for about forty years. His wife was also a member, and died in November, 1871, having become the mother of seven children, who lived to be grown, one of whom is now deceased: Martha (White), William, in Utah Territory, James H., George J., Sarah (Gist), Catherine (Rork) and John E., who died in Texas in August, 1879. George J. Robertson attained his majority in Moniteau County, and for three years was engaged in farming with his sister on her farm, making his home there. After his marriage, in 1870, he settled on a farm near where he now lives, where he remained until 1881, when he came to his present location, his farm being one of the best improved and finest located in the county. He has been quite successful, and nearly all his property has been acquired through his own exertions and good management. He was married to Mrs. Nannie (Price) Robertson, widow of Horace W. Robertson (a cousin of our subject), who died in 1868, and a daughter of H. Price, of Kentucky. She was born in that State on the 1st of June, 1840, and was brought to Missouri at the age of seven years. She and Mr. Robertson are members of the Baptist Church, and he is a Democrat politically.
