George Henry Rosemiller, a native of Hanover, Germany, was born in 1838, and is a son of Fredrick and Anna Dorothy (Elselerick) Rosemiller, also natives of Hanover. Fredrick Rosemiller was born about 1810, received his education in Hanover, and learned the tailor’s trade. He immigrated to America with his wife and two children, arriving in St. Louis after a voyage of seven weeks, on New Year’s Day, 1844; he worked at his trade in St. Louis until his death in 1845, after which his widow married Fred Uding, a native of Prussia, who owned a wood yard and was engaged in teaming in St. Louis, where he died during the cholera siege, leaving one child, Anna L., now living in Kansas. The mother of our subject afterward married Andrew Anderson, a native of Slaweg Holsten, who entered the war in 1861 and died in 1863 from injuries received in service, since which time the widow has lived with her son, Henry Rosemiller. The family removed from St. Louis in the spring of 1857 and located in Marion County, Mo., where they remained until 1871, in the latter year settling in Moniteau County. Our subject has one brother, Frederick, who also lives in Linn Township, Moniteau County. George Henry Rosemiller was reared in St. Louis, where he received his education. At the age of twenty-three years he engaged in farming for himself, and during the war served about nine months in the State Militia, receiving his discharge at Jefferson City in 1865. After the war he again turned his attention to farming, and now owns about 123 acres of land in Linn Township, which is well cultivated. In 1866 Mr. Rosemiller married Anna Elizabeth Mengel, who was born in Keer Hessen, Germany, in 1845. To this union have been born eight children, five of whom are living, viz.: Louisa, wife of John Haldeman; Frederick L., Charles, Minnie and Rosa. Those deceased are William, John H., and an infant not named. Mr. Rosemiller is a member of the A. O. U. W. of California, and is a stanch Republican in politics. He takes active interest in schools, and is giving his children good educational advantages.
