F. W. T. Heyssel, a merchant of Jamestown, Mo., was born in Saxony, Germany, in 1846, and is a son of Gottfried and Christina Heyssel. The parents were both natives of Saxony, where they were reared and married, and remained until the month of March, 1861, when they set sail for America, and ten weeks later landed in New York City, whence they emigrated overland to Sandy Hook, Moniteau County, Mo., arriving June 27, 1861. Here the father purchased land, which he cultivated until his death in 1878, at the age of sixty-seven years; he was a member of the Lutheran Church, as was also the grandfather of our subject, who immigrated to the United States in 1860, and died ten years later at the age of eighty-five. Christina Heyssel was born in 1818, and is still living; of her eleven children seven are now living, viz.: Albert, Lieberte, Edward, Alwene, Gustav, F. W. T. and Emil. F. W. T. Heyssel received his education in Saxony, and some time after coming to this country he commenced work for his brother-in-law, who was a merchant in California, Mo. Mr. Heyssel subsequently went to Jamestown, where he engaged in general merchandising in partnership with another brother-in-law, K. Hecht, who died August 26, 1887. Mr. Heyssel has since continued the business successfully alone, and looks after his share of the trade. He is an enterprising merchant, and one of the leading men of the township. He ably served as deputy county treasurer two years. November 23, 1879, Mr. Heyssel married Carrie Schultz, who was born in Posey County, Ind., in 1856. They have four children: Irwin Theodore, Henry F., Floris and Moris. Mr. Heyssel is a member of the Lutheran Church and his wife of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
