Christian Rohrbach, a prosperous farmers of Moniteau County, Mo., was born in Switzerland, near Seftegan, in November, 1839, and is the son of Christian and Christina (Rohrbach) Rohrbach, who were natives of the same place. The father followed agricultural pursuits for a livelihood, and passed his entire life in Switzerland. To his union with Miss Rohrbach were born eight children, four living in Switzerland, three in the United States, and one deceased. They are named as follows: Christian, Frederick, Rudolph, John, Elizabeth, Anna and Mary. Christian Rohrbach was reared and educated on his father’s farm in Switzerland, and remained there until 1868, when he sailed for America, the ocean voyage lasting about twelve days. He landed at New York, but came direct to Moniteau County, Mo. He was out of money, and had to work by the day for a few years. In May, 1871, he was married to Miss Elizabeth, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Martin) Rohrbach, who were natives of Switzerland, and who came to America in 1855. They located in Ohio, where the father died in the same year. After this the mother moved to Missouri, and here died, leaving four children. The same year of his marriage Mr. Rohrbach, our subject, purchased the farm where he now lives, which then consisted of eighty acres of poor, worn out land. He set to work, improved it in every way, and soon had an excellent farm. He has good buildings, and is one of the thrifty, wide-awake farmers of the county. He turns his attention principally to the raising of grain. Mr. and Mrs. Rohrbach are members of the German Evangelical Church. To their union were born six children: Albert, Ella, William, Fred, Annie and Walter.
