Chris Miller was born near Evansville, Ind., in 1854, and is a son of Christoph and Catherine (Yeoss) Miller, the former of whom was born in France and the latter in Germany. [See sketch below.] Chris Miller was but one year old when his parents located in Missouri. He was reared on a farm in Moniteau County, and obtained his education in the common schools of the same county. When he became old enough to look out for himself he chose farming as an occupation, and for a few years rented land which he successfully cultivated. He then purchased his present farm of 356 acres, which is situated on Howard Creek, is of the best land in the township and well improved; in 1888 he erected a fine residence, and now has one of the pleasantest homes in the vicinity. In April, 1887, Mr. Miller married Mary L. Nickles, who was born in Ohio in 1861, and is a daughter of Benedict and Catherine (Feller) Nickles, who came to Missouri when she was six years old. To Mr. and Mrs. Miller have been born six children, viz.: Catherine, Elizabeth, Caroline, Eliza, Mary Anna and Louis B. The parents are members of the German Methodist Episcopal Church, and the family is one of the most prosperous of the township.
