Aurelius M. Moles, merchant of Clarksburg, Mo., was born in Patrick County, Va., February 21, 1856, John B. and Susan (Corn) Moles, his parents, being also natives of that State, the former’s birth occurring in 1821. In 1858 with his wife and four sons he came to Saline County, Mo., but the same year came to Moniteau County and settled on a farm northeast of California, where he remained until August, 1887, when he moved to the town, and here is still living, retired from the active duties of life. To him and wife (who was born in Virginia in 1826, and whom he married in 1855), have been born the following family: Herman P., James O. W., Herbert L., a school teacher of Miller County, and Aurelius M. The latter was reared in Moniteau County, and attended the schools of California and the State Normal, at Warrensburg. He taught his first term of school in 1876 in Highland District, east of California, and was afterward associated with Prof. Hooper in the Hooper Institute, remaining thus associated for over three years. Since that time he has been engaged in business in partnership with his brother, James O. W., and C. Hodge, the firm name being Moles Bros & Hodge. They carry a general line of merchandise, and owing to their honesty and fair dealing with their customers they command a large and paying trade. Mr. Moles is a Democrat in politics, and has held the office of town treasurer, and is now one of the town councilmen. He belongs to California Lodge No. 183 of the A. F. & A. M., and in his religious views is a member of the Baptist Church. April 9, 1885, he was married to Miss Edna M., a daughter of William Crum, whose sketch appears in this work. She was born on the 12th of March, 1860, and is the mother of two children, Aubrey H. and Maggie May.
