August Blanck & Bro., manufacturers of pottery, have their business situated about one and a half miles northeast of California, having leased the pottery establishment from A. Hoberecht in January, 1887. They manufacture all kinds of stoneware, etc., and are doing a good business. They employ on an average about eight men; their goods are sold all over Missouri, and are well known in that State. August Blanck, the senior member of the firm, was born in Elsas, Germany, August 3, 1861, and is a son of Savior and Elizabeth (Brangard) Blanck, who were natives of the same place. The parents immigrated to America in 1868, and located in Cooper County, Mo., near Boonville, where they still reside. They were the parents of five children, three now living: August, Frank X. and Eugene. Those deceased were named Lizzie and Albert. August Blanck came with his parents to America when but a lad of seven years. He reached his majority in Cooper County, and there received a fair English education. When about sixteen years of age he learned the pottery business, and has been engaged in this ever since. He attended college at Osage Mission, in Neosho County, Kas., for one term. In 1881 he came to Moniteau County, Mo., worked for A. Hoberecht until the latter’s death, when he leased the business, and still carries it on. These gentlemen are professional potters, and thoroughly understand their business, which is steadily on the increase.
