Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Andrew J. Hudson was born in Boone County, Mo., January 8, 1845, and is a son of Hilliard H. and Eliza (Boggs) Hudson, natives respectively of Simpson and Madison Counties, Ky., the former born, in 1821 and the latter in 1825. They came to Missouri when children, about 1825 or 1826, and located in Boone County, Mo. Hilliard H. died in July, 1881. His widow survives him. Andrew J. Hudson was but a babe when his parents located on the farm in Moniteau County. He attended the common school from two to three months per year, and assisted his parents on the farm at other times until grown. At the age of nineteen he enlisted in the Confederate army under Gen. Price, and was with that famous general during part of his raid in Missouri. Mr. Hudson was captured and taken to Richmond, Va., where he was discharged in February, 1865, reaching home April 12, 1865. He then engaged in farming on the homestead, where he has since lived, with the exception of three years in Boone County. In September, 1881, he was appointed judge of the county court to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, and the following year was elected to the same office, which he held until January 1, 1887. September 7, 1881, Mr. Hudson married Sally E. Bruce, who was born in Moniteau County December 26, 1860, and is a daughter of Moten and Susan Bruce. Two children have blessed this union, Owen M. and William R., the latter of whom died in July, 1886, at the age of twenty months. Mr. and Mrs. Hudson are members of the Baptist Church, of which Mr. Hudson was appointed a deacon in 1881. He is a prominent man in the county, and was a delegate to the State convention that nominated Gov. Francis. Politically he is a Democrat.
