Below is a family biography included in The History of McDonald County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Harmon Dustin, a druggist and hardware merchant of South West City, Mo., was born in Portage County, Ohio, on November 10, 1842, and is a son of Sylvanus Dustin, also a native of Portage County, Ohio. The latter is a tailor by trade, and is now a resident of Kansas. Harmon Dustin traveled over Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska and Kansas, and worked at various occupations until he was twenty-five years of age. He then prepared himself for a druggist, and in September, 1870, established a drug store in Seneca, Mo. Four years later he located at South West City, and resumed the drug business. He also established his present hardware store. He now has about $3,000 invested in drugs, medicines, paints, oils, notions, school-books, stationery, etc., and $5,000 in hardware, including wagons and farm machinery. He is an enterprising citizen and does a large business. His marriage with Nancy J. Parsons, a daughter of Baldwin Parsons (deceased), was celebrated on January 7, 1872. Two children have been born to their union, one of whom, Maud P., is living. Mr. Dustin takes little interest in politics, and has never sought official honors. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. His wife is a member of the Christian Church.
