W. M. Mayfield, farmer and stock raiser, was born in Laclede County, Mo., and is the son of William R. and Sarah E. (Davis) Mayfield. The grandparents on both sides came to Laclede County at quite an early date, and settled in what is now Mayfield Township. W. M. Mayfield grew to manhood in that township, and received a good collegiate education. After finishing his education he engaged in farming, and has followed this occupation ever since. He deals quite extensively in stock, and in this pursuit he has been quite successful. He was married, January 5, 1885, to Miss Lou, daughter of John Esther, of Laclede County, and by whom he had one child, Orin. Mr. Mayfield is a member of the Agricultural Wheel, and he and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
