Jasper N. Norman, farmer and merchant, was born in Camden County, now Laclede County, in 1841, his parents being Moses and Lucinda (Nichols) Norman. Moses Norman was born in Tennessee in 1793, and came to Missouri from Mississippi in about 1837 or 1838. He located in what is now Camden County in about 1840, and entered the place where his son Jasper N. is now living. Here he died in 1873. He was a United States mail contractor while in Mississippi. He was a Democrat in his political views before the war, but since that event he has voted with the Republican party. His wife, Mrs. Lucinda (Nichols) Norman, was born in Illinois in 1828, and on becoming a young woman she came to Missouri with her people. Here she married Mr. Norman, and is still living at the home place. She bore Mr. Norman eight children, seven now living: Jasper N., Newton, Caledonia, Sarah J., Taylor, Caroline, Mattie, and Solomon, who died when a child. Jasper N. Norman attained his majority in this county, where he has always lived. At the opening of the war Mr. Norman enlisted in the Osage Regiment, Company A, United States Army, and served about one year. He was wounded accidentally, and was afterward discharged and came home. He was married, in 1865, to Mary S. Wright, who bore him six children, two now living: Ida and Nellie; Ida is the wife of Robert B. Regan. The remainder of the children died when young, with the exception of Lucy, who died at the age of sixteen years. Mrs. Norman died in 1872, and Mr. Norman was married the second time, to Miss Minnie Doss, in 1885. She was born in Northern Missouri, and by her marriage to Mr. Norman became the mother of three children: Grace, Archie and Harrison. Mr. Norman is a member of the I. O. O. F., and is a Republican in politics.
