Charles Coffman, of Laclede County, Mo., is a son of A. S. and Mary E. (Connor) Coffman, natives respectively of Tennessee and Missouri. The father became a resident of Laclede County, Mo., in 1852, where he owns a good farm and is in comfortable circumstances. He served in the late war as first lieutenant of Company G, Sixteenth Missouri Cavalry. His son Charles was born in Laclede County, Mo., September 12, 1866, and made his home with his father until he attained his twentieth year, when he left the paternal roof, and began doing for himself, homesteading the farm of forty acres on which he is now living. He is one of fifteen children, three of whom are deceased, and September 26, 1886, was married to Miss Ella Edwards, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Bohannan) Edwards, who were Kentuckians, and who came to Laclede County, Mo., in 1874, where they have since made their home. Mr. and Mrs. Coffman are the parents of one child, Lawrence E. Mr. Coffman is a stanch Republican in his political views, and is an enterprising and industrious young farmer.
