Andrew J. Holman, a wealthy farmer of Auglaize Township, and a native of Laclede County, Mo., was born November 19, 1848, and is a son of George T. Holman, whose sketch appears in this volume. Andrew J. grew to manhood on the farm on which his father now resides, and was educated in the district schools of the county, and also attended school in Lebanon for a short time. When reaching manhood he began to improve the farm where he now lives, and in 1872 married and moved onto the place, which consists of 220 acres, with ninety acres under cultivation, the result of his own industry and good management. He has always been a hard worker, both for himself and for his parents, and as a result has a comfortable and pleasant home. Elizabeth Mayfield, his wife, was born May 12, 1855, and is a daughter of W. R. Mayfield, a prominent old settler of the county. Four children have blessed their union: Florence L, Ida M., Jessie M., and Amanda E., who died in infancy. Mrs. Holman died June 2, 1882, having been a zealous member of and worker in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In December, 1882, Mr. Holman was wedded to Miss Martha M. Sellers, who was born in Tennessee, and came to Missouri with her parents when ten years of age. She is the mother of one child, Mary E. Mr. and Mrs. Holman are active workers in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and he is a member of the A. F. & A. M. and the Agricultural Wheel, and has ever taken a deep interest in all laudable enterprises, contributing liberally to their support.
