Below is a family biography included in The History of Jefferson County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Rev. David Q. Travis, pastor of the Congregational Church of De Soto, is a native of Trigg County, Ky., and was born October 16, 1857. His father was John W. Travis (deceased), who was born in Marshall County, Ky. David Q. Travis was reared on a farm and received his literary education at Eddyville Academy. He began preaching at Hopkinsville, Ky., in 1881, and the same fall was transferred to Marvin Chapel, St. Louis, thence in 1882 to Texarkana, on the line of the Texas & Arkansas Railroad. He subsequently took a course of two years at the Vanderbilt University, of Nashville, Tenn. In 1885 he was located at Foristell, St. Charles Co., Mo., and in 1886 assumed charge of the Union Congregational Church, of St. Louis. In July, 1887, he removed to his present pastorate in De Soto, where he has the welfare of his charge thoroughly at heart. Mr. Travis is a member of the I. O. G. T., and Literary Society of Kai Fai, a college fraternity.
