Below is a family biography included in The History of Jasper County, Missouri published by Mills & Company in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. WILLIAM E. WILLOUGHBY. The father of our subject, John C. Willoughby, was a native of Kentucky, and the first minister in Jasper county after the war, and the only one in this part of the country for some years. The mother of William, Elizabeth Willoughby, was born in Tennessee and moved with her husband to Jasper county in 1866, Our subject was born in Jackson county, Ill., Nov. 30, 1856, and was reared and educated in Jasper and Lawrence counties. At the age of twenty-two he took a drove of mules to Texas and returned. On Nov. 9th, 1882, he was married to Miss Meda King, daughter of William and Myra King, natives of Tennessee. Of eighteen children Mrs. Willoughby was the youngest child, and was born April 5, 1861, in Benton county, Ark., reared in Lawrence county, Mo., graduated from the college at Marionville in 1880, and taught one term of school there. Soon after Mr. Willoughby was married he located on his present farm of 160 acres, all under cultivation. Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby are members of the M. E. Church. He takes an active part in the public welfare, and in politics is a strong Republican.
