HENRY C. SHIVELY, farmer, was born in Columbia county, Pa., Sept. 22, 1847, and was there raised. His father, George, is a farmer, and is still living in Pennsylvania. The subject of this sketch was married in April, 1868, to Emma Greninger, who was born and raised in Clinton county, Pa. She died in September, 1872. Mr. Shively was married again Jan. 1, 1874, to Minerva J. Spencer, who was born in Jasper county March 31, 1844. Their children are Rachel C., George A., Effie M., and one not living. Mr. Shively is a member of the Evangelical Church and Mrs. S. of the Christian. Mr. Shively came to Jasper county in 1868. He lived for a time in Oregon and in California until within the last six years. He owns a good farm of eighty acres and raises good crops; also has a small young orchard; he has devoted some time to mining at Joplin. Mrs. Shively, being born and raised in the county, has seen some of its hardships and the stirring scenes of the war. She has carried meals to the men concealed in the brush during the war, and her father’s house was burned down, and they were compelled to leave at night This farm is in section 15, township 27, range 31, Jackson township.
