He owns a farm near town of 120 acres, which has an orchard, raises good crops, and is near the Pleasant Valley Mining Lands, and there is every reason to believe that there are quantities of mineral under his farm. Mr. McCarty was engaged in tanning and the grocery business for fifteen years in Michigan and New York. He was a very successful teacher for a number of years, and is a refined and genial gentleman, commanding universal respect. His farm is located in section 17, township 28, range 31, of Jackson township, two and one-half miles southwest of Carthage.
