He came to Jasper county, Mo, in 1868, and bought and improved the farm upon which his family still reside, and where he died Feb. 1, 1883. He was during life an industrious, enterprising citizen, a kind husband and father, and a sincere Christian gentleman. Was for many years identified with the church of the United Brethren, and was ever active in its interests; was a member of the first congregation organized in the county, and assisted in the maintenance of the sabbath schools. He left an interesting family of two sons and three daughters: Eliza J., Mary E., Joseph, John F., and Clara Belle. His widow manages the farm and is a lady of many admirable traits of character and more than ordinary intelligence; she enjoys the unqualified esteem of her neighbors.
