Below is a family biography included in The History of Jasper County, Missouri published by Mills & Company in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. ABEL SHELDON, farmer and stock-raiser, section 22, post-office Golden City. He has a farm of 160 acres, all under cultivation and in pasture, well watered, and has a fine two-story frame residence, good barn and granary. The subject of this sketch was born in St. Lawrence county, N. Y., May 27, 1824, and was reared and educated there. He is the son of Amos and Roxie Sheldon. His father was born in New York and his mother in Virginia. Our subject was the eldest of three children. He moved to Medina county, Ohio, with his parents when eighteen years of age and engaged at farming. In the spring of 1851 he was married to Miss Sophronia Gridley; her parents were natives of New York. Mrs. Sheldon was the eldest of twelve children. She was born Nov. 25, 1826, in Medina county, and was educated in the common schools of Ohio. At the age of seventeen she commenced teaching school, taught one term and gave up teaching on account of weak eyes. Mr. Sheldon moved to La Porte county, Ind., and farmed seven years; in 1858 he moved to Tama county, Iowa, and farmed there until 1869; then moved to Ohio and lived there three years. In March, 1878, he moved and located on his present farm. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon have four children, named Lydia R. Wilson, Ann Messick, Alice Morgan, and Edgar Sheldon. Mr. Sheldon is considered a good farmer, a good neighbor, and himself and family in the community stand high.
