Christian H. Meyer, a successful farmer of Roark Township, and the son of Henry and Christine (Grannemann) Meyer, was born in Gasconade County, Mo., in the year 1842. He grew to manhood on the farm, securing a fair education in the common schools of the county, in both the English and German languages. In 1861 he enlisted in the Home Guards and served three months. He then joined a reserve corps and later the Fourth Missouri Volunteers, serving altogether eighteen months. After returning home he worked on the railroad for some time, and then engaged in agricultural pursuits, at which he has been quite successful. In 1868 he led to the hymeneal altar Miss Wilhelmina Vedewald, a native of Franklin County, Mo., born in 1847, and the result of this union was the birth of five children, three sons and two daughters. Soon after marriage they settled upon the farm he now owns, which consists of 182 acres. For forty-six years he has been a resident of Gasconade County, and is accounted a good farmer and an honest, upright citizen. He is a Republican in politics.
