Below is a family biography included in The History of Franklin County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

William Mueller, stone and marble cutter of Washington, Mo., was born in Baden, Germany, in 1815, and is the son of Fritz and Veronica Mueller. Fritz Mueller was a stone-cutter by trade and the father of ten children, William being the eldest. At the age of seventeen the latter commenced learning his trade, and worked as an apprentice four years. In 1852 he immigrated to America and located in Washington, Mo., where he has since resided. In 1839, before coming to America, he married Walburga Kehlern, who was born in Ger many, in 1816, and the fruits of this union were two children: Philip and Veronica. The former was born in Germany in 1844, learned the trade of his father, and is now at the head of the business. In 1865 he married Miss Helena Sauer, who was born in Germany in 1845, and who bore him seven children: Veronica, Annie, Frank, Fritz, William, Simon and Joseph. Veronica, daughter of our subject, is the wife of George Goeller, and has two children; Lizzie, wife of Fritz Willmann, and George. The first twelve years after coming to Washington, Mo., Mr. Mueller followed hunting and fishing, and also kept boarding house. About 1866 he resumed work at his trade, and has since followed that business. He and son are first-class workmen, and are reliable in their contracts. June 29, 1887, his wife died, and since that time his granddaughter, Annie, has been keeping house for him. Mr. Mueller is a Republican in politics and a member of the Catholic Church.
