Below is a family biography included in The History of Franklin County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

N. B. Davidson, a citizen of Union, Franklin Co., Mo., and at present engaged in the Internal Revenue Department, was born seven miles east of Union, January 24,1845, and is the fourth of thirteen children born to Samuel M. and America (Billups) Davidson, natives of Charlotte County, Va. The father was born in the year 1818, has followed agricultural pursuits, and now resides on his farm, in Franklin County, Mo. The grandfather of our subject, James D. Davidson, was a native of Virginia, who immigrated to Missouri and located in Franklin County in 1832. The mother was the daughter of one of the old settlers of Franklin County. She died in 1862. N. B. was reared on the farm, received his early education in the common schools, but later attended Jones’ Commercial College, at St. Louis, Mo., during the winters of 1864, 1865 and 1866, thereby securing a good business education. He followed agricultural pursuits until 1885, when he was appointed United States storekeeper and gauger in the Internal Revenue Department in the First Missouri District, and is now stationed at Yancy Mills, Phelps County. In 1866 he married Miss Sarah V. Bell, a native of Franklin County, born in 1847, and the daughter of John W. Bell. To them were born four children, all now living.
