Samuel Asbridge is a native of North Carolina, born in 1812, and is a son of Joseph and Sarah (Pounds) Asbridge, who were born in Maryland and North Carolina, in 1750 and 1752, and died in Kentucky in 1835 and 1826, respectively. The father was a farmer, and his father was also an agriculturist, of English birth, and a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Samuel Asbridge is the seventh of eight children (six of whom grew to maturity), and made the paternal roof his home until after the death of his mother. He received very meager school advantages, and at an early day began earning his own living. In 1833 he was united in marriage to Jane Bonner, who was a daughter of William and Anna Bonner, and was born in Tennessee in 1814, and died in 1871, having borne seven children, only one, a daughter now living. After his marriage Mr. Asbridge resided in the State of Kentucky two years, and from that time until 1852 resided in Tennessee, and at the latter date took up his abode in Dent County, Mo., where he has continued to reside up to the present time, having spent the time in farming with the exception of two years, when he was engaged in the livery business in Salem. He owned at one time 640 acres, but now owns only 257 1/2 acres, with 100 acres under cultivation. In 1885 he deeded one and a half acres on which to erect a church, which is denominated the Union Church, and is the largest country place of worship in the county. February 14, 1874, he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Price, widow of William Price, and daughter of John and Rachel Hagler. She is of German descent, was born in Union County, Ill., in 1844, and became the mother of three children, two of whom are living: Sidney L., who was born June 1, 1873, and is the wife of H. Pewett, and Rachel Melvina, who was born in August, 1875. In 1865 he enlisted in the Eighty-fourth Regiment Missouri Infantry, Federal service, and since the late Civil War has been a Republican in politics. He and wife are members of the Christian Church.
