John N. Campbell, a farmer and stock raiser of Barry County, Mo., was born in Monroe County, Tenn. on July 4, 1832. He is a son of Reuben and Polly (Dillard) Campbell. Reuben Campbell was a farmer, and was born in South Carolina. When a young man he emigrated from his native State to Tennessee, where he was married. He and wife were the parents of ten children eight of whom are living. John N. Campbell is their second child. When a boy he went with his parents to Georgia, in which State he remained until the Civil War. There he married Orpha Douglass, a native of Georgia born in August, 1835, and to them have been born ten children, all of whom are living; their names are Albert, Columbus, Elijah, Gerome, Louisa, Madison, William, John, Elzena and Oscar. Mr. Campbell removed his family from Georgia to Indiana, and five years later immigrated to Arkansas. Remaining in the latter State about seven years, they removed to Missouri, locating in Barry County. He has reared a large family of intelligent children, and has a good farm of about 100 acres The family are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In politics Mr. Campbell endorses and supports the principles of the Democratic party.
