Below is a family biography included in The History of Barry County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Daniel S. Breece, of the firm of Breece & Co., lumber merchants of Monett, Mo., is a native of Knox County, Ohio, born in 1846. His parents, Saul and Sarah (Kinney) Breece, are natives of Pennsylvania and Maryland, respectively. Saul Breece was born in 1804, and when a young man migrated to Knox County, Ohio, where he married a few years later and removed to Morrow County, that State. He is still living, having followed agricultural pursuits during his life. In politics he has been a life-long Democrat, having cast his first presidential vote for Gen. Jackson in 1828, and having voted at each election since. His wife, who is of German origin, was born in 1806, and is yet quite active and strong, and is doing her own housework at the age of eighty-two years. They reared eight children to maturity, viz.: Andrew I. (who resides in Oregon) Stanley (deceased), Julia (wife of John Minnich, of Fulton County Ohio), David C. (of Kingman County, Kan.), Abigail (deceased), Daniel S., Lydia Ann (deceased) and Sarah E. (wife of Henry Warner, of Knox County, Ohio). Daniel S. educated in the public schools, remaining on his father’s farm until he was eighteen years of age, at which time he began an apprenticeship at the carpenter’s trade, which he continued for three years. In 1871 his marriage with Sarah M. Hendershot, who was born in New Jersey in 1850, was celebrated and to them has been born one child, Blanche E. In 1876 Mr. Breece left his native State, immigrating to Barry County, Mo. He located in the northwest part of the county, where for many years he was engaged in farming on a small scale and working at his trade. In October, 1887 he removed to the beautiful town of Monett, and became a partner with R. W. Jones and J. A. Beaven in the lumber business, under the firm name of Breece & Co. They carry a first-class stock of lumber, sash, doors, shingles, paints, hair, lime, cement, etc., and are doing a thriving business. Mr. Breece is a Democrat, and is a member of the I. O. O. F. His wife and daughter are members of the Baptist Church.
