Cornelius Robbins, an enterprising farmer and respected citizen of Capp’s Township, Barry Co., Mo., was born on April 22, 1836, in Connecticut. He is the son of John and Sarah (Meade) Robbins, who were of English origin. Both parents died in Connecticut, leaving five children. Cornelius Robbins remained in his native State until he was sixteen years of age, when he went to New York City, where he remained two years clerking in a wholesale dry goods establishment. He then went to Michigan, and for five years was engaged in the lumber business in St. Clair County, after which he returned to New York, and remained nine years engaged in the draying business. Then removing to Illinois he was engaged in farming in Iroquois County until 1866, when he came to his present farm. Since then he has been very successfully engaged in agricultural pursuits, and now owns a farm of 120 acres of well-improved land with a nice residence, situated three and one-half miles south of Monett. He married Jeannette Gandol, of New York, by whom he is the father of seven children. They were Mary (deceased), Frank L. (deceased), Loren C. (a farmer who resides near his parents), John B., Lillie B., Minnie S. and Frank M. Mrs. Robbins, John R. and Lillie B. are members of the Methodist Church. Politically Mr. Robbins is a Republican.
