J. R. BURNAM was born in North Carolina, October 4, 1823, and is a son of Wilson and Elisabeth (Gambrel) Burnam, both natives of North Carolina and of English descent, respectively. Wilson Burnam emigrated to Kentucky about the year 1880, and settled in Trigg County; he was a carpenter, and worked at his trade in connection with farming until his death in 1877. J. E. Burnam was educated in Trigg County and remained with his parents until 1860, when he was married to Sarah J. Holly, a native of Kentucky; to them were born two sons and one daughter. Mrs. Burnam died some seventeen years ago, and Mr. B. next married Lucy Hyden, a native of Tennessee. Two children bless this union—one son and one daughter. Mr. Burnam is by trade a brick layer, and follows this business in connection with farming. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. at Rock Castle, also of the Blue Lodge, A. F. & A. M. at Parkersville, Ky., and is one of the leading men of the precinct and county.
