My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM S. SABEN (deceased) was born in Vermont, a son of Moses and Ruth Saben, natives of that State. William S. Saben was reared in his native State, and when twenty-five years of age immigrated to Kentucky, acting for several years as a conductor on the Kentucky Central Railroad. He afterward bought a farm in Kenton County, Ky., where he lived until his health failed, and he returned to Vermont, where he died in 1866. He was married, October 8, 1857, to Mahala, C. Chowning, a daughter of John and Julia (Hutchinson) Chowning, of Pendleton County, Ky., and to this union four children were born, viz.: John M., Arabella, Clarence A. and Mary E., all of whom are still living. November 23, 1869, Mrs. Saben married Thomas Dance, a native of Kentucky, and one son and two daughters blessed their marriage: Caddie O., an infant (deceased), and Lula K. Mr. Dance died in 1878, having settled where his widow now resides the same year. Mrs. Dance owns 200 acres of well-improved land. The family are members of the Christian Church.
