Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

THOMAS C. NICHOLS, M. D., a practicing physician at Morgan, Pendleton Co., Ky., was born in Owen County, Ky., November 24, 1848, and is a son of Thomas D. and Jane (Crawford) Nichols. Thomas D. Nichols, a native of Henry County, Ky., was a son of Mack Nichols, a native of Virginia, but an early settler in Henry County, Ky. Mrs. Jane Nichols was born in Mercer County, Ky., and was a daughter of James Crawford, a native Virginian, who settled in Mercer County, Ky., early in the history of the State. Thomas D. Nichols moved to Owen County after marrying, where he followed farming all his life. Thomas C. Nichols was reared on the farm, and received a common-school education. He commenced the study of medicine in 1870, with Dr. S. T. Cull, of Owen County, and in 1871 entered the University of Louisville, where he graduated in medicine in 1873. He then located at Monterey, Owen County, and engaged in the practice of his profession until 1881, when, he moved to Pendleton County, where he has since been constantly and actively engaged. November 13, 1884, he married Hallie Lansing, and one child has blessed their union, Mary G. The Doctor is a member of the I. O. O. F., and is a Democrat in politics.
