My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOHN WOODHEAD, a native of England, was born January 31, 1847, and is a son of Joshua and Ann (Bottomley) Woodhead. Joshua Woodhead was born in February, 1824, and his wife was born August 2, 1822. They were natives of England, and came to the United States in 1854, where Joshua Woodhead engaged in woolen manufacturing for two years in Lowell, Mass. In 1866 he went to Falmouth, Ky., where he engaged in the same business until his death, which occurred in 1886, having been elected police judge of Falmouth in 1874. Mrs. Ann Woodhead is still living at Falmouth, at the age of sixty-four. John Woodhead came to America at the age of thirteen, and received his education at Columbus, Ohio. In 1875 he married Miss Ella Kennett, daughter of James N. Kennett, of Falmouth. Mr. Woodhead is associated with his brother in the manufacture of woolens, which business was established by his father in 1866. He also owns a fine farm near Falmouth. In 1883 Mr. Woodhead was elected a member of the board of trustees town of Falmouth, and was re-elected each year until 1887, when he declined being a candidate. He was also one of the alternate delegates from the Sixth Congressional District of Kentucky to the Republican National Convention, held in Chicago in 1884.
