My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JACOB U. RIGGLE is a native of what is now West Virginia, and was born April 7, 1852, the son of Zephniah and Elizabeth (Hill) Riggle, who were natives of Pennsylvania, but removed to Virginia in 1852, and thence came to Pendleton County, Ky., in 1866. George Riggle, the paternal grandfather of Jacob U., was born in Germany, January 10, 1777, came to America in 1790, settled in Pennsylvania, and married Miss Rachael Spears, a native of Wales. Jacob U. Riggle was educated at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and in 1876 engaged in mercantile pursuits, which he followed until 1883, when he was appointed county receiver of Pendleton County, and has been reappointed twice, thus holding the office three successive terms. His present term will expire in January, 1888. He was married in February, 1878, to Miss Kate Ellis, daughter of Hayden Ellis, formerly sheriff of Bracken County. Mr. Riggle has, besides town property, a fine farm of 300 acres in Pendleton County, about four miles from Falmouth.
