My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

CHARLES H. LEE, a native of Leverett, Franklin Co., Mass., was born June 20, 1818, and is a son of Charles and Sarah (Hobart) Lee, natives of Massachusetts, of English origin. The father of our subject was a farmer, and Charles H. was reared on a farm, but at the age of eleven years removed to Vermont, where he received an academical education. On leaving the farm he taught school in Vermont, Massachusetts and New Jersey, and in 1841 came to Mason County, Ky., where he taught about five years; from there he went to Bracken County, where he was county surveyor four years, reading law in the meantime. He began the practice of law in Bracken County in 1851, and was county judge of that county from 1857 to 1861. He removed to Falmouth, Pendleton County, in 1865, where he has since been engaged in the practice of his profession, representing Pendleton County in the Legislature in 1868-69. Mr. Lee has been married three times: first in 1843, to Miss Caroline Dudley, a native of Vermont, and a daughter of Gen. Dudley, a hero of the war of 1812; she died in the spring of 1851, and in 1854 Mr. Lee married Martha Thomas, of Augusta, Ky., who departed this life in 1858. In 1859 Mr. Lee took for his wife Julia C. Ball, of Massachusetts, who died in the fall of 1885, leaving two children: George Dudley and Fannie S. Mr. Lee has two children by his first wife, viz.: Rosa M., who married W. W. Quinn, of Denver, Colo., and Charles H. Mr. Lee owns 140 acres of land in Pendleton County, is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and has been superintendent of the Sunday-school ten years.
