My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WELDON P. GRIFFIN, McCracken County, was born July 18, 1819, near the Virginia and North Carolina line. His parents were William G. and Phoebe (Glover) Griffin, natives respectively of Kentucky and North Carolina. The father was engaged in merchandising in North Carolina, and was there married. He was a son of William Griffin. W. P., the subject of these lines, is the only one living of the three children born to his parents. He was engaged, in early life, in clerking in his native State, and, after his marriage, gave his attention to farming pursuits. Leaving Virginia in 1843, he came to this county in 1867, after having resided several years in Christian and Ballard Counties, Ky. During the war he sold goods in the latter county. At present he has farming property both here and in Tennessee, and during his life has administered on several estates. He was first married to Miss Caroline Howerton, of Virginia, a daughter of Thomas Howerton, of Virginia. Five children are living of this union: James A., Cornelia E., Thomas M., Theodore W. and Ella C. His present wife, Sallie M., is a daughter of Joseph M. Fauntberry; a son, James A., is living of this marriage.
