My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

ROBERT J. DUDLEY was born in October, 1825, in Logan County, Ky. When a mere boy, he was taken by his father, Robert B. Dudley, to Montgomery County, Tenn., where the latter died. Robert J. was reared to the labor of the farm, to which he has devoted most of his life. From Montgomery County, Tenn., he removed about 1854 to Trigg County, Ky., and thence, in 1858, to Ballard County. In Ballard County, he operated his farming interest until 1875, when he removed to the city of Paducah, to engage in the handling of leaf tobacco, which he has since followed. Mr. Dudley was married in Blandville, Ky., in 1859, to Miss Mary Corbett, daughter of Jacob Corbett. She is a native of Hickman County, but of Virginia parentage. Their union has been blessed with the birth of three children: Jacob C., Fannie B. and Emily M. Dudley. Mr. Dudley is a member of the Christian Church and of the A. F. & A. M. His residence is on Chestnut Street, between Jefferson and Monroe Streets, Paducah.
