Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

LAWRENCE P. RASOR, dealer in fruits and confectionery, at No. 211 Broadway, Paducah, is a native of that city, and was born March 26, 1840. His father, George F. Rasor, was a native of Kentucky, and was married in Russellville, Logan Co., Ky., to Miss Julia A. Graven, who was born in Culpeper County, Va. They removed to Paducah in 1836, where they spent the remainder of their lives, she dying in 1864, and he in March, 1884. Lawrence P. is the fourth of seven children of these parents. He has been a resident of Paducah since childhood. In early life he learned engineering and for about seventeen years followed the river as a steamboat engineer, and also served the city of Paducah for three years as an engineer of the fire department. In 1876, in the city of Paducah, he was married to Miss Cornelia Davis, a native of Memphis, Tenn. Their children are Lawrence and Florence Rasor. Mr. Rasor is a worthy member of the Knights of Honor.
