My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. JOHN H. KENNY, dental surgeon, of Paducah, Ky., was born July 15, 1842, in the city of Brooklyn, N. Y., where he was chiefly educated. He is a son of Michael and Mary (Harvey) Kenny, both of whom were of Irish birth. In 1854, being then twelve years, old, John H. was brought to Kentucky by his father, his mother having died. The father located in the city of Louisville, where John H. attained his majority, studying his profession under Dr. John Leatherman, of that city. He began his practice in Hardinsburg, Ky., where he remained until removing to the city of Paducah, in 1871. Being skillful in his profession, and a true gentleman, he soon secured a large practice, and became one of the substantial elements in the professional arena at Paducah. Dr. Kenny was married in 1871, in Cloverport, Breckinridge Co., Ky., to Miss Mary Bassett, daughter of James Bassett, a prominent citizen of that county. Dr. Kenny and wife are members of the Catholic Church.
