CHARLES HAWTHORNE was born in Ballard County, Ky., September 15, 1858, and is the son of Mastison O. and Eva (Bodkins) Hawthorne. The father was a native of Kentucky, was a physician, and died in 1871. Our subject is the eldest of six children born to his parents, and of whom there are three living. He was reared on a farm and attained a good education. At the age of fifteen he went to live with an uncle and remained with him until he became of age. He then rented a farm near Woodville, McCracken County, and has since given most of his attention to agricultural pursuits. Having learned the carpenter’s trade in Ballard County, he established here in January, 1883, his present wagon works, which he has since operated. His success in life has been due to his own efforts. He now owns two residences with several acres of land adjoining in Woodville, aside from his business and other town property. December 25, 1878, he married Miss Lucy A. Hudson, of Woodville. This union has given one child, Minnie.
