Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOHN B. WILSON, M. D., an esteemed citizen and skillful physician of Marshall County, Ky., is a native of Trigg County, was born in 1837, and is a son of Joel and Mary Wilson; the father is yet a resident of Trigg County. Dr. Wilson passed his youthful days in his native county; studied medicine at Roaring Springs, under Dr. G. W. McKinney, and after the usual preparatory study, entered the Physio-Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating from that institution in 1860. Until 1869, the date of his last settlement in Marshall County, he practiced in Trigg, Calloway and Marshall Counties, but in the last named year removed to his present home, in the southeastern part of the county, near Olive. Besides an extensive practice, Dr. Wilson superintends the interests of his farm, owning 425 acres of land. He is a member of the Baptist Church, Masonic order and I. O. O. F.; married in Calloway County in 1861, to Miss Alice Petty. They have five children, named as follows: Milus M., Laura B., Alice, Anna May and Dora Wilson.
