Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

GEORGE COOPER, merchant and post master at Palma, Marshall Co., Ky., is a native of Trigg County, this State, and was born in 1846. His father, Benjamin Cooper, was born in North Carolina in 1813, where he remained until eighteen years old, at which time he came to Sumner County, Tenn., and after remaining there four years, moved to Kentucky. He located in Trigg County where, in 1842, he married Julia A. McCarty. She was born in 1821 in Clark County, Ky. These parents, with their family, removed to Marshall County in 1870, and are now among the honored citizens of that county, living two miles west of Palma. They reared seven children, viz.: Isaac, George, Lydia E. (deceased wife of H. M. Dix); Sarah E., wife of W. C. Malone; Mary A., widow of W. D. Blewett; Morgan and Martin B. Cooper. George Cooper, whose name introduces this sketch, was reared and educated in his native county, where, in 1870, he married Miss Leah F. Berkley, daughter of Seaborn and Martha (Frizzell) Berkley. Mr. Cooper began merchandising in Palma, Marshall County, in October, 1880, being the postmaster of that place, and serving as a deputy county clerk. He is an honored member of the F. & A. M.
