OTTO SCHNEIDER, grocer, is a native of Bavaria, Germany, was born in 1840, and was brought to America in 1843 by his parents, who settled in Louisville. There Otto was educated, and at the age of seventeen began to learn the painter’s trade. In 1861 he enlisted in Company G, Fourth Kentucky Cavalry; served three years and four months, when he was transferred to the Fourteenth United States Infantry, and was connected with the army of the Cumberland until the fall of Atlanta, and was then with Sherman until the close of the war. He was wounded in the leg at Missionary Ridge, and in the side at the taking of Fort McAllister. He was with the Fourteenth until the close of the war as second-lieutenant, and afterward joined the V. R. corps as first-lieutenant and served until March, 1866, when he was mustered out at Annapolis. Upon the return of Mr. Schneider to his home he worked at his trade, then went West, where he followed the same four years, and then returned to Louisville, where he has been engaged in his present business for fifteen years.
