These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. W. J. MOORE was born February 5, 1823, in Hickman County, and is probably the oldest living native of the county. He is a son of Ira and Phoebe (Farmer) Moore. The father died in 1868, aged eighty-three; the mother died in 1881, aged seventy-three. For some good reason the father disposed of the home place, on which our subject was reared, but in 1851 William J. Moore purchased this farm back, and has since owned it. It is pleasantly located about two and one-half miles east of Clinton, and contains 120 acres of land well improved. W. J. was married in 1847 to Matilda Adams, of this county. She died in 1854, leaving one son,, now in Tennessee. In 1855 Mr. Moore married Mary Hayden, of Graves County. This union has been blessed with six sons and four daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Moore are life-long and devoted members of the Baptist Church.
