Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM H. FERGUSON was born December 22, 1845, at Rome, Perry Co., Ind. He removed with his parents in infancy to Bolivar, Miss.; in 1848, moved to Duboise County, Ind.; removed in 1850 to Perry County, then in 1853 to Shelby County, Ohio; in 1858 to Fulton County, Ky.; in 1861 returned to Indiana; in 1865 came to Christian County, Ky.; in 1870 moved to Sullivan County, Ind., and in 1873 to Moscow, Ky., where he still resides. His father, Allen M. Ferguson, was born near Pittsburgh, Penn., in 1818, and is now living. He is the son of William Ferguson, who is also living. Subject’s mother, Mary, daughter of Joshua B. and Rebecca (Lang) Huckeby, of Rome, Ind., was born in Kentucky, and died in 1863, at the age of forty-seven years. William H. Ferguson was married December 10, 1874, to Miss Hetty S., daughter of Daniel and Susan (Smith) Roberts, of Henderson County, Ky., and to them have been born Mary A. (deceased), Harry (deceased) and Alia. Mr. Ferguson engaged in clerking for a number of years, until 1882, when he commenced business as a druggist in Moscow, at which he has been successful. He is also engaged in the insurance business to some extent. He is an Odd Fellow and a member of the Episcopal Church.
