My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

W. H. GALBRAITH, Hickman County, was born September 10, 1834, in Christian County, Ky. He is a son of Henry and Sarah B. (Tribble) Galbraith. The father was born in Pennsylvania in about 1793. He first settled in Cumberland County, Ky., in 1828, and later in Christian County. In 1851 he came to Hickman County, and settled on the farm where our subject now lives. It consists of 150 acres, and joins the town of Clinton on the north; is beautifully located, and commands a fine view of Clinton and the surrounding country. In 1862 W. H. Galbraith enlisted in Company B, Twelfth Kentucky Cavalry, Confederate States Army, and served to the end of the war, after which he returned to his present farm; he has also carried on the carpenter trade here, and has held the office of magistrate, constable and deputy county surveyor. Mr. G. was married in 1856 to Mary Weatherley, of Hickman County. This union has been blessed with four children—three sons and one daughter.
