Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. THOMAS D. BRYAN was born September 21, 1851, in Fulton County, Ky., where he grew to manhood; in 1881 he came to Hickman County, where he now resides. His father, Dr. William A. Bryant, a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., removed to Tennessee in youth, and at the age of twenty-three years to Fulton County, Ky., where he died in 1876, at the age of fifty-three years. He was the son of John Bryan, a soldier in the war of 1812. Dr. William A. married Rebecca A., daughter of Ralph and A. C. (McFadden) Blair, of Rutherford County, Tenn.; she died in 1874, having borne the following children: Susan F. (Wills), Asenath J. (Wright), James R., subject, John F., Nathan T., Robert A., Josiah, Samuel B., Mollie R. and Sallie R. On November 23, 1876, Thomas D. was married to Miss Georgia A., daughter of John and Elizabeth E. (Simmons) Hester, of Obion County, Tenn. She was born November 7, 1858. In 1875 subject commenced the study of medicine with his father, and attended lectures at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., in 1879, and graduated in 1881. Dr. Bryan then settled at his present location, where he has met with reasonable success in the practice of his profession. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, also of the Baptist Church, and in politics he is a Democrat.
