S. R. TAYLOR was born April 1, 1839, in Clinton. He is a son of William H. H. and Kittie (Robinson) Taylor. The father was born in Virginia, came to Hickman County at an early day, held the offices of county and circuit clerk of this county, and died in 1868, in Texas, aged fifty-nine. S. R. Taylor enlisted in the Confederate States Army, from Texas, and served until the end of the war, after which he returned to Clinton, and in 1874 was elected county clerk; he held this office until 1882, since which time he has been engaged in farming; he owns 142 acres, where he now resides. Mr. Taylor was married in 1860 to Mary B. Smith, of Hopkinsville; she died in 1878, leaving five children, two daughters and three sons. In 1879 Mr. Taylor married Kate Samuels, of Clinton; this union has been blessed with three children, one son and two daughters.
