My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

PAT KEIRCE, car inspector for the Mobile & Ohio Railroad, was born January 6, 1846, in Ireland. He is a son of Michael and Hannah (Quinn) Keirce. The father still lives in his native country, now at the advanced age of eighty-five. The mother died in May, 1866, aged fifty-four. In 1862 our subject came to Louisville, Ky., worked there at various kinds of employment until December, 1865, and then came to Columbus, where he has since resided. His first work was on a wharf-boat for Halliday Brothers, remaining in their employ five years, after which he secured employment with the Mobile & Ohio Railroad Company as car repairer; this position he held until 1883, when he was appointed car inspector, which position he now satisfactorily fills. He was married in 1867 to Ellen O’Donnell, of Columbus; this union has been blessed with three children, two sons and one daughter. They are members of the Catholic Church.
